Ingredients

  • 1 cup Unsalted butter, softened Ensure butter is at room temperature
  • 3/4 cup Brown sugar, packed Adds moisture and flavor
  • 1/2 cup Granulated sugar For sweetness and crisp edges
  • 1 large Egg
  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract Adds rich flavor
  • 2 1/2 cups All-purpose flour For the base of the dough
  • 1 tsp Baking soda Helps cookies rise and spread slightly
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 2 cups Semi-sweet chocolate chips For the signature chocolatey goodness

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add the egg, one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  • Stir in the vanilla extract until well combined.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined.
  • Gently fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips.
  • Use a cookie scoop or spoon to portion out dough onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown, but the centers are still soft.
  • Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Use butter at room temperature because it mixes well with sugar, giving cookies a smooth texture. Chill the dough thirty minutes before baking to prevent spreading and keep a thick, chewy texture. Try different chocolate chips, like dark or white chocolate, for a unique taste. Add chopped pecans or walnuts if you want a nutty crunch to complement the chocolate sweetness. Eat these cookies fresh from the oven, but they can be stored in a container for a week or frozen longer.
